Animal Health International chooses Axxana Phoenix System® RP for critical data protection

Disaster recovery solution will protect distributor’s SAP implementation.

Date: 22 Feb 2012

Axxana says that Animal Health International, a premier animal health products distributor, purchased The Phoenix System® RP to ensure 100% data protection and recovery of its voluminous SAP data maintained in the corporation’s DB2 database.

Animal Health International found Axxana’s DR solution to be cost-effective and easy to deploy, since the company uses EMC’s VNX storage with EMC RecoverPoint. Axxana’s Phoenix System RP will protect their SAP implementation as they migrate to a dual-datacentre architecture. Axxana developed the Phoenix System RP in conjunction with EMC RecoverPoint to enable remote synchronous disaster recovery over existing IP communication lines.

Axxana’s Phoenix System RP will provide zero data loss protection, as well as unprecedented WAN link failure data protection, as Animal Health International replicates across US state lines. Furthermore, since Axxana protects data through high application peaks, Animal Health International will be able to maintain average bandwidth and avoid costly communication line upgrades in the near or distant future. Such synchronous replication benefits were never attainable within an asynchronous environment before the invention of Axxana’s Enterprise Data Recorder (EDR), AKA the Enterprise Black Box.

With an eye for emerging technologies, Tim Hays, Animal Health International’s Vice President of Information Technology, looked for a reliable disaster recovery solution. “As we implement our RecoverPoint environment between two distant data centres, we were interested to find an affordable solution for an asynchronous infrastructure that provides zero data loss for our SAP application. With Axxana’s Enterprise Data Recorder, our needs are answered.”

Michael Fedele, CEO of The Pinnacle Group, reseller, commented: “With The Phoenix System RP, we, as a multi-vendor reseller, are able to provide a disaster recovery solution that serves as a much more cost- effective alternative to the common synchronous solutions in the market. Axxana gives us a competitive advantage with a zero data loss DR system to add to our offerings.”

“The Axxana system will smoothly integrate with Animal Health International’s SAP architecture to protect their invaluable data. We are proud to provide Animal Health International with a top-tier data protection solution with no need to compromise,” said Eli Efrat, Axxana’s CEO. “This is another significant validation of Axxana’s technology, and of the widespread need for reliable disaster recovery systems, regardless of what vertical you’re in.”

In Animal Health International’s new dual data centre DR environment, EMC RecoverPoint will send data asynchronously to the remote data centre, while the Axxana EDR will protect a synchronous copy of information inside a hardened black box Storage device at the primary site itself. Following any disaster, The Phoenix System® RP will rapidly extract the protected data and transmit it to a remote site, where the recovered information will be reintegrated by EMC RecoverPoint with the asynchronous remote copy, thus yielding, combined, an exact mirror image of the data in the primary data centre.
