Recently a leading Cloud based SaaS provider who provides automated order processing and data access security to some of the oldest and largest companies in the food industry approached MTI with the pains of a large consolidated virtual infrastructure environment that needed managing.
In general these consolidation issues are fast becoming the main concern for IT Directors; "There is no doubting that data centres are now more efficient than they where just 5 years ago, this is due to the virtualisation of servers in the data centres that occurred in recent years." Aad Dekkers explains "It is common that companies who embraced virtualisation in that period are now facing post consolidation issues." Aad continued: "These issues are spread across their entire infrastructure. IT Directors now need to manage consolidated DR platforms, network infrastructure, virtualised backup & recovery plans and consolidated access to secure information storage. IT Directors have to be able to manage virtualisation everywhere in their datacentre. No longer is the issue just how to virtualise servers, it is how to manage the whole virtual datacentre."
Unfortunately IT Directors also understand that there is more consolidation to come if they are to meet the environmental guidelines and regulations that governments are implementing such as Carbon Reduction Commitment that comes into effect in the UK, April 2010.
To meet these demanding regulations organisations need to ensure that all their computing is efficient and this includes the real estate of desktop computers they may have.
This is why corporations large and small are now turning to certified integrators to assist with their virtualisation. IT Directors are now requesting increased support across their entire platform infrastructure right down to the desktop. One of the first things to do to is get the consolidated datacentre under control and managed a benefit of a well managed virtual datacentre is that the internal datacentre can now be accessed just like a service providers data centre would be and so this makes it easy to charge departments and users for usage (helping focus users on environmental concerns). To manage a datacentre well, clients need to assess their entire data centre infrastructure. MTI provide health checks ranging from virtualisation, network, storage, even environmental and carbon reduction health checks to ensure datacentres are managed and provisioned correctly.
To ensure quality of service in cross platform consolidation management MTI are certified partners with three leading organisations in internal & external cloud computing; namely VMware, Cisco and EMC. In the company of these partner organisations MTI are currently providing a series of free* to attend workshops, private advisor meetings at our linked solutions centres in both London and our new facility in Frankfurt for company's that are considering migrating towards cloud computing. At these events clients can gain insight their requirements and get to look under the hood of virtualised data centres / internal or private clouds with a local company that has all the qualified expertise. We would like to extend an invite to all readers to come and join us.
